A New Sustainable Business Venture at Clough Bottom Farm
Sustainability leaves a legacy beyond our lifetime and we are practising what we preach...
As a business we are so keen to help the environment in as many ways as possible.
In November 2012 the new Biomass Boiler was successfully fired up to provide heating and hot water to properties on the farm including our training facilities, office and site kitchen using a very efficient burning process which is fully automatic. The hot water is piped throughout the site using state of the art, highly insulated pipes enabling all the individual LPG boilers on site to be removed and replaced by hot water heat exchangers.
The Biomass Boiler, operates using wood chips from the farmland cutting down existing carbon dioxide output from LPG fuel, which will be removed completely from the site, as well as making significant monetary savings.
Back in April 2012, Harry Backhouse, owner of Clough Bottom Farm, started the process of installing the Biomass boiler on site and is well on his way to completing the ‘turnkey' solution for all of the properties on the farm.
Calculations were made to ensure the correct size of boiler was chosen to serve all our properties on site and a specially designed, 40 cubic meter wood chip store was ordered. The size of the wood chip store ensures the boiler will be fed for weeks as opposed to it having to be fed every day. The work is continuing and with the arrival of more heat exchangers the remaining properties will soon be connected to the boiler and will benefit from the environmentally friendly, cost effective heat the boiler supplies.
Harry can sit back and enjoy the warmth.....until his next venture!
