As an organic chicken, at Clough Bottom Farm, believe me, it’s a nice life. It’s also quite an interesting life. Now, as chickens go, I’m not really one for waxing lyrical, but my home here is a good example of how rural beauty can be enhanced to provide a backdrop to many different kinds of activity.
This 17th century farm is nestled in the heart of the beautiful Ribble Valley, down a quiet country lane, caught in a fold of the Lancashire hills. The people who come here use words like, ‘retreat’, ‘relaxing’, ‘refreshing’ and ‘energising’, and these are people who come from all over the country for lots of different reasons. I know this as they often stop to admire my funky strutting around the yard, and make appreciative noises over my beautiful new brood of chicks – as fresh and fluffy as the mash potato our award winning chef makes as an accompaniment to the delicious fresh pies and stews for the business people on their experiential training courses.
Some of our visitors come in search of ornamental trees and shrubs for their gardens, others to tend their horses and ponies or perhaps spend a relaxing cottage break in this idyllic stretch of the Ribble Valley, Lancashire.
Maybe you think I’m a bit verbose for a chicken, but seriously, Clough Bottom really opens your mind – sets your imagination free. There’s just something really special and renewing about the place…. Don't forget to sign up for our newsletters
