Welcome to the New Country
A word from Beak…
As an organic chicken, at Clough Bottom Farm, believe me, it’s a nice life. It’s also quite an interesting life. Now, as chickens go, I’m not really one for waxing lyrical, but my home here is a good example of how rural beauty can be enhanced to provide a backdrop to many different kinds of activity.
This 17th century working farm is nestled in the heart of the beautiful Ribble Valley, down a quiet country lane, caught in a fold of the Lancashire hills. The people who come here use words like, ‘retreat’, ‘relaxing’, ‘refreshing’ and ‘energising’, and these are people who come from all over the country for lots of different reasons. I know this as they often stop to admire my funky strutting around the yard, and make appreciative noises over my beautiful new brood of chicks – as fresh and fluffy as the mash potato our award winning chef makes as an accompaniment to our delicious range of Food from the Farm ready meals, and lunches served to people attending experiential training courses at Clough Bottom.
Some of our other visitors come in search of large and ornamental trees and shrubs for their gardens, others to enjoy a relaxing cottage break in one of our three, lovingly converted self-catering holiday cottages - the perfect base to explore this idyllic stretch of the Ribble Valley, Lancashire - some come to stock up on our Food from the Farm which includes our delicious 10kg organic beef boxes and homemade preserves, jams and chutneys, and some even choose Clough Bottom as the venue for their wedding reception!
Maybe you think I’m a bit verbose for a chicken, but seriously, Clough Bottom really opens your mind – sets your imagination free. There’s just something really special and renewing about the place….
