Regenerative Tourism

Enhancing the Landscape

The luxury lodges are set within landscaped gardens and areas of wildflower planting, helping to create habitats for pollinators and increasing biodiversity across the estate. The accommodation is designed to sit within the natural landscape rather than dominate it.

Sustainable building materials

The lodges are clad in sustainably sourced Scottish larch from a family-run mill. Using renewable timber rather than more carbon-intensive materials aligns with regenerative design principles.

Renewable energy use

The venue states that it is powered by solar panels and a biomass boiler, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering the carbon footprint of weddings, events and accommodation.

Supporting local food and producers

The Out Barn hosts a farmers' market featuring local food, drink and crafts, helping visitor spending circulate within the Ribble Valley economy. The venue also works with local catering partners and promotes nearby accommodation and businesses.

Protecting rural heritage and farming landscapes

The estate is a working farm and a restored rural property within the Ribble Valley. By generating income through weddings, lodges and retreats, tourism helps maintain the farmed landscape, historic buildings and countryside setting that visitors come to experience.

Encouraging longer stays

Their "Estate Takeover" model encourages guests to stay for an entire weekend rather than making multiple journeys. Longer stays typically generate greater local economic benefit per trip and can reduce transport emissions per visitor day.

Nature-based wellbeing experiences

The estate's 200 acres of countryside, woodland and river environments are used for walking, wellbeing retreats, mindfulness activities and outdoor experiences that help visitors connect with nature.
